Happiness, resilience & wellbeing

Once upon a time (yesterday, in fact) there was a storytelling conference…

It’s always great to spend time away from work to reflect on what we do, without the usual distractions of Teams meetings and emails. Yesterday’s Market Research Society Storytelling conference was one of those days. I don’t often get the luxury of a full day to take a step back from the day job to connect and learn from others, and there were some great ideas shared, from the use of various frameworks to interactive workshops (both of which I’m a big fan of), using Sway instead of PPT, poetry slams, using art to convey a message, AI and of course video, which is integral to a lot of the work we do at Blue Yonder Research – and for good reason. Plenty of food for thought and lots of ideas whirring!

A huge thank you to our client Liga Magdalenoka-Keen for co-presenting with me on The Art of Spectacle, and how using techniques from theatre better engages audiences, drives emotional connections and makes your message memorable. Thanks also for going along with my crazy ideas about theming it around panto and having Floella, Rapunzel’s evil stepmother, featuring! We talked about the psychology of why stories are so powerful, had a fantastic case study from Liga’s work at Scientific Games, some audience participation (oh yes we did!), quite a few laughs and a lot of fun presenting! Although Floella wasn’t able to make it in person (it’s too hot for all those clothes, makeup and wig 😅!), she did make an appearance on a few of the slides and had a special cameo at the end. I’ll share her video soon…it’s great to be able to bring my lives in and out of work together at moments like this!

Looking forward to sharing what was discussed with the wider team at Blue Yonder and thanks to the team at the MRS for organising such a great event. Next stop the consumer qual conference I’ll be presenting at in a couple of weeks’ time! 😁
